Youth Group Volunteers – Dyslexia Scotland North East

Dyslexia Scotland North East is a volunteer led branch of Dyslexia Scotland The role of the branch is to raise awareness and understanding of dyslexia by holding monthly meetings during the school term.

The branch Youth Group, XdysleX, is made up of youngsters with dyslexia who want to be part of a safe and fun group to make friends, try out new things and build self esteem. XdysleX members take part in a variety of activities – from drumming workshops to wall climbing, bowling and just hanging out with others. In 2012, the group made a DVD about life with dyslexia which contains the views and experiences of the young people and practical information for teachers. We currently have great opportunities for people to volunteer at the group as:

*Youth Group Leaders: The role of the Youth Group Leader is to work with other volunteers in the planning and running of XdysleX meetings – with others, thinking of activity ideas and carrying them out on the night.

*Youth Group Helpers: The role of the Youth Group Helper is to help other volunteers in the running of XdysleX meetings –thinking of activity ideas and carrying them out on the night.
