“My mentor tells me that I am good enough. She makes me believe in myself as well. I haven’t had a lot of times where someone tells me that I’m good enough or ‘you can do it’.” Shannon, Mentored young person.
MCR Pathways is Scottish charity that is looking for volunteers to mentor local disadvantaged pupils like Shannon. Mentors are matched with a young person and provide a caring, listening ear for just one hour a week at school.
Mentoring takes place at St Machar Academy, St Machar Drive, Aberdeen for one hour a week during the school day. Our vision is that every care-experienced and disadvantaged young person in Scotland gets the same education outcomes, career opportunities and life chances as every other young person.
All help makes a real difference and excellent support is provided to all volunteers. Mentors don’t need any special skills or experience, but should be good listeners, caring, non-judgmental and committed. Mentors receive full introductory and ongoing training and are supported by a full-time MCR Pathways Coordinator.
