Bloodwise | Collection Volunteers at ‘Calendar Girls the Musical’

Take part in one of the collections for Bloodwise, the blood cancer research charity, at a performance of the award winning show Calendar Girls the Musical at His Majesty’s Theatre, Aberdeen. Just a small amount of your time will make a huge difference to people affected by blood cancer.

At Bloodwise, we continue to fund over 1,000 blood cancer researchers working in over 200 projects across the UK. We also fund clinical trials, without which we wouldn’t be able to prove that new treatments will improve care for people with blood cancer. We don’t want to just find a cure, we also want to provide patients with a quality of life post treatment.

The story of the Calendar Girls began in 1998 when John Baker, husband of Angela Baker, was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma, a type of blood cancer. John sadly passed away after just a few months of treatment. In the months following their loss, Angela and her friends at the Women’s Institute set about creating the now infamous calendar. Through the sale of calendars, the WI aimed to raise enough to buy a new sofa for the hospital where John was treated and they were amazed when the calendar attracted international press attention. So far, they’ve raised nearly £4million for Bloodwise (formerly Leukemia & Lymphoma Research), the blood cancer charity they have long been associated with.

So far, we have raised over £50,000 for Bloodwise at collections during the run of the musical (August ‘18 – present). We would truly appreciate your help and support to continue this fantastic success to fund the vital research needed to beat blood cancer.  Here is the link to apply for a volunteering role –  – a range of times are available to suit volunteers – weekday or weekend, afternoon or evening anytime(s) between 19th February 2019 – 2nd March 2019 .
