Station House Media Unit (shmu) is one of the core cultural organisations in North East Scotland and is at the forefront of community media development in Scotland, supporting residents in the seven regeneration areas of Aberdeen in radio and video production, traditional and on-line publications, music production and digital inclusion. The organisation also supports other disadvantaged communities, both geographic and communities of interest, including an employability and training arm and a programme for offenders, both pre and post-release.
The organisation is entering an exciting new phase following a £1.5 million redevelopment of our HQ in Woodside. The redeveloped HQ includes a fantastic new foyer/open plan social space as you first enter the building, with a reception desk including the door entry system. As a community managed, needs led organisation it is vital that shmu offers the best possible service to all building users; staff, volunteers and visitors, so we are looking for enthusiastic volunteers for our new reception. The opportunity involves being the friendly, welcoming first point of contact for the organisation.
Reception duties: Responsibility for door entry, greeting visitors, volunteers and service users, taking phone calls and maintaining a clean and tidy reception area and social space.
We would like this role to be beneficial for the organisation and for the volunteers who undertake it; volunteers may choose to undertake the reception duties detailed above, however there are some additional/optional tasks (general administrative and clerical duties including filing, data entry and document preparation), for volunteers who are keen to develop their skills further or take on a little more responsibility. Volunteers who are looking to build on their skills to enter into, or return to work, can also receive specific employability support if required, such as support to complete applications, CV creation and interview skills.
A volunteer role description with full details of key tasks and activities can be provided on request. Induction, excellent support and relevant training is provided to all volunteers. This is a diverse and engaging role for a busy community organisation.
