activpayroll has been a proud advocate of Maggie’s Aberdeen since it opened back in 2013. After taking part in various charity events including Ride the North, Balmoral 10K and Culture Crawl in aid of Maggie’s, CEO of activpayroll, Alison Sellar OBE and Business Services Director, Sian Odgers, became members of the Maggie’s Fundraising Board in 2017.

As ambassadors of Maggie’s, Alison and Sian have made a personal commitment to the charity and are responsible for engaging potential supporters and speaking in public to help support the delivery of the overall fundraising strategy through a programme of activities, donations and other fundraising initiatives.

Alison and Sian haven’t done all of this alone, we are lucky enough at activpayroll to have a team extremely committed to helping others, especially with so many having a personal connection to Maggie’s. activpayroll does its utmost to help fundraise and raise the profile of Maggie’s, from gardening to cycling 178 miles, the team is always up for a challenge!  

activpayroll wanted to do something a little different to help Maggie’s in 2018 and hosted the first ‘Maggie’s Fizz Afternoon’. Although open to the public Monday to Friday, the beautifully designed Maggie’s Centre sits unoccupied over the weekend, creating the unique opportunity to host an event within the centre. With the help of Centre Fundraising Manager, Paula Cormack and a number of volunteers, the event was a huge success and raised over £4,600 for the charity.

Following this success, the event was held again in 2019 in the form of a Mexican-themed ‘Fizz Fiesta’, raising a total of £6,716. What truly makes these events special is the support from local businesses offering entertainment, catering and raffle prizes and the amount of volunteers that offer up their free time on a weekend to help. This new annual event helps showcase the wonderful Maggie’s building and its offering, while raising funds to help cover the £400,000 annual running costs.

activpayroll encourages every team member to get involved when it comes to CSR, however we know that not everyone is a fitness fanatic, which is exactly why we hold events such as bake sales, international lunches and dress down weeks. These initiatives are a great way to get all team members involved and raise money for an amazing cause.

The dress down initiative is something that has really proved popular at activpayroll. Instead of just dressing casually on a Friday like most businesses do, activpayroll makes it a week-long event. For each day that a team member dresses down, they donate a minimum of £1.
