About this opportunity

Leading north-east cancer charity, Clan Cancer Support is appealing for volunteers across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire to support local people impacted by cancer.

The charity is currently seeking volunteers to offer its vital listening and support service which enables people impacted by a diagnosis to speak to someone about their cancer journey.

Clan is also looking for people with retail experience to help with the running of the charity’s shop in Rosemount and Ballater, which opens Monday to Saturday 10am-4pm.

Clan recommends that volunteers commit to a minimum of three and a half hours of time per week.

All volunteers will be required to undergo PVG checks, which are arranged by Clan.

Retail or customer service experience is preferred for retail volunteering opportunities, with all training provided by the charity.

Successful listening and support applicants will be invited to attend a two-day training course in Aberdeen on Wednesday, April 15 and Thursday, April 16, ahead of taking on their new voluntary positions.

Pamela Fenton, Clan volunteer team leader said: “Volunteers are at the heart of everything we do at Clan, and we currently have some great opportunities available in Aberdeen for people to play an active role in supporting local people with cancer. The benefits of volunteering can be felt by the charity and the volunteer – you’ll meet new people, develop valuable skills, and gain experiences that can enrich your personal and working life.”

Clan provides emotional and physical support for people of all ages who are impacted by a cancer diagnosis with the charity providing 1,175 drop-in appointments to people across Aberdeen in the last year and welcoming 1,035 new clients.

Pamela added: “We are eternally grateful to every volunteer who gives their time to Clan. Their dedication enables us to provide first class support services to local people and families impacted by cancer, and their contribution makes a real difference in their community.”
