About this opportunity
Are you passionate about fresh food, community projects and meeting new people? Join our friendly team at the Compass Shop and play an important role in helping us bring our organically grown fruit and vegetables from field to customer.
Based at our site in Cults, the Compass Shop is much more than a place to buy produce. It is a welcoming community space where people can learn about local food, sustainability and the journey from seed to plate. As a Shop Assistant Volunteer, you will help create an enjoyable shopping experience while supporting a project that promotes healthy living, environmental awareness and community connection.
In this varied and rewarding role, you will assist with organising and maintaining attractive displays of seasonal fruit, vegetables and other produce, helping to showcase the quality of the food grown on site. You will provide a warm and friendly welcome to customers, answer basic questions about products and help create a positive atmosphere in the shop. You will also support the day-to-day running of the shop by handling cash and card transactions and ensuring shelves and displays remain well stocked and inviting.
One of the unique benefits of volunteering with Compass is the opportunity to learn more about organic growing and sustainable food production. If you are interested, you can gain insights into how our produce is grown, harvested and prepared for sale, developing knowledge that you can use in your own garden or future career opportunities.
Volunteering with us offers much more than work experience. It is a chance to build confidence, develop customer service and retail skills, meet new people, and become part of a supportive team that values every contribution. Whether you are looking to gain practical experience, improve your communication skills, make new friends or simply give something back to your community, this role provides a meaningful and enjoyable way to do so.
No previous retail experience is required. We are looking for enthusiastic, reliable individuals with a positive attitude and a willingness to learn. Full support and guidance will be provided. All new volunteers will receive a friendly induction covering the Compass project, shop procedures, health and safety, customer service and handling cash and card transactions. Volunteers will be introduced to the team and shown how the shop operates on a day-to-day basis. Ongoing support will be provided by experienced staff and volunteers, with opportunities to develop retail, customer service and communication skills. Those interested can also learn about organic growing and sustainable food production. We aim to create a welcoming, supportive environment where volunteers feel valued, gain confidence and enjoy learning new skills at their own pace.
By volunteering in the Compass Shop, you will be helping us connect people with locally grown food while supporting a project that has a real impact on our community. Come and be part of something positive, sustainable and rewarding. We would love to welcome you to our team.
