About this opportunity
Grampian Disability Sport (GDS) is a voluntary organisation who’s main aim is to lead and support the development of sport and physical development opportunities for people with disabilities across Grampian.
Grampian Disability Sport supports participation, inclusion and training in sport for those with disabilities within the Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire and Moray areas. We are made up predominantly of volunteers who have a passion for disability inclusion. We work in partnership with key local agencies, clubs, schools, and governing bodies to increase participation and improve access to inclusive sport opportunities across the region, along with providing our own sessions for participation and key events throughout the year.
GDS is a member branch of Scottish Disability Sport (SDS). The national governing body for disability sport in Scotland, operating in line with SDS and is committed to maintaining appropriate governance standards and minimum operating requirements (MOR).
Our mission is to inspire, encourage and support people of all ages and abilities with a physical, sensory, or learning disability to become more active.
Our vision is that everyone in Grampian with a disability has the opportunity to participate in sport and physical activity.
Our themes are;
- Strong partnerships.
- Participation opportunities for all.
- Building capacity and advocating for our community.
Our values are;
- Inclusive
- Collaborative
- Inspiring
- Determined
Our secretary role is predominately remote. Charity meetings occur mostly once a month with occasional additional in person meetings within Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen City for event organisation and others and various venues.
Administration tasks between meeting can be completed remotely.
We also strongly encourage connection with our disabled participants and ask for support with attendance at a few events throughout the year to generally support the smooth running of the day and create visible representation and connections for the charity.
Volunteers are offered an induction which will include familiarisation with the Charity systems, access to policies and procedures and familiarisation with the relevant platforms.
Volunteers will be supported to find, or offered, Child and Wellbeing in Sport training which is renewed every three years.
The volunteer will be supported by the board members of the Charity.
Other training will be offered throughout the year to support the charity values and mission.
