About this opportunity
Look Good Feel Better is the UK's only cancer support charity dedicated to helping people manage the visible and emotional side effects of cancer treatment. For more than 30 years, we have supported people living with cancer through free, confidence-boosting workshops and services delivered in partnership with the NHS, Macmillan, Maggie's and other healthcare organisations. Our workshops provide a safe, welcoming and supportive environment where participants can learn practical skills, connect with others who understand their experience, and regain confidence during what can be an incredibly challenging time.
We are currently looking for caring and enthusiastic volunteers to support our HeadWrappers workshops. These uplifting sessions are designed for people experiencing hair loss as a result of cancer treatment. While hair loss can be one of the most visible side effects of treatment, it can also have a significant impact on self-esteem, confidence and identity. Our HeadWrappers workshops help participants explore practical and stylish ways to wear headscarves and headwear, while providing reassurance, encouragement and a sense of community.
As a HeadWrappers Volunteer, you will play an important role in creating a positive and welcoming experience for attendees. Working alongside other volunteers and Look Good Feel Better staff, you will help guide participants through a range of practical techniques, including understanding hair loss, caring for the scalp, learning simple scarf-tying methods and exploring different ways to wear headwear with confidence. Volunteers also help foster a warm and inclusive atmosphere where participants feel comfortable asking questions, sharing experiences and supporting one another.
These workshops are often about much more than learning practical skills. For many attendees, they provide an opportunity to meet others who are facing similar challenges and to focus on self-care and wellbeing. Participants frequently tell us that the workshops help them feel more confident, more positive and more like themselves again. As a volunteer, you will have the opportunity to contribute directly to these meaningful experiences and help make a lasting difference to someone's cancer journey.
We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds. An interest in haircare, wigs, headwear, beauty or wellbeing can be helpful, but no previous experience is required. Full training, resources and ongoing support will be provided, ensuring you feel confident and prepared in the role. What matters most is that you are compassionate, approachable, reliable and committed to helping others.
In return, volunteering with Look Good Feel Better offers the opportunity to use your skills in a meaningful way, gain valuable experience, meet like-minded people and become part of a supportive volunteer community. You will see first-hand the positive impact that practical support and human connection can have on people affected by cancer.
All HeadWrappers Volunteers receive comprehensive training and support before getting started. This includes access to e-learning modules, interactive Zoom training sessions delivered by our Lead Volunteers, and the opportunity to observe a workshop to gain confidence and experience before supporting participants. Ongoing guidance and support are provided by the Look Good Feel Better team, ensuring volunteers feel prepared, supported and connected throughout their volunteering journey.
This is a flexible volunteering opportunity, with workshops taking place throughout the year and volunteers able to support sessions on either a regular or occasional basis. Whether you can give your time frequently or just a few times a year, your contribution will help ensure that more people facing cancer can access the support, confidence and sense of community they deserve.
