About this opportunity
About MISS:
We are a miscarriage support service - the only early pregnancy loss charity covering Scotland, based in Aberdeen.
We are a charity offering free, confidential support to anyone in Scotland impacted by pregnancy loss.
We provide one-to-one sessions, virtual support groups, and a range of resources including memory boxes, support packs, podcasts, and a private peer support group.
Whether people are grieving a loss, trying again, or pregnant after loss —we ensure no one is alone.
How you can help:
Since we started in 2017, over 100 amazing people — from students to retirees, from Aberdeen to London — have contributed an incredible 10,120+ volunteering hours in support of our cause. We highly value our volunteers; without whom, we wouldn’t be here providing the services we do. Currently we have opportunities to volunteer with us in any of the following ways:
• Fundraising and Events Volunteers
• Treasurer
• Community Engagement Volunteers
• Garden Maintenance Volunteers (at our Forget-Me-Not garden in partnership with the Aberdeen Sands baby loss support charity)
Volunteering can be an extremely rewarding experience. Here are some of the ways it can help you:
• Skills development
• Mental health benefits
• Increases social connections
• Gives a sense of purpose
• Makes a difference in your community
• Enhances your CV
Our volunteers feedback:
“One thing I've really enjoyed is getting to share my opinions and getting to hear everyone else’s ideas and working as a team. I would 100% recommend volunteering with MISS as everyone is very lovely and supportive. For those considering volunteering, you should go for it. There is nothing to fear. Everyone at MISS is here to support you.” (Fundraising and Events Volunteer)
“Being part of the MISS board is really rewarding because it's a chance to give my time and expertise to a cause I care about, while also learning and growing my skills along the way”. (Trustee)
“I completed a counselling skills course and wanted to continue to learn and develop my skills. I am excited to have the opportunity to volunteer in the support team for MISS. I feel that MISS does great work to support women through difficult times. I am passionate about the cause and it is fulfilling to be able to help support women through the trauma of miscarriage” (Support Volunteer)
"Volunteering with MISS brings me comfort that I can help others going through the same loss we experienced. It is extremely rewarding to be involved with a charity that is always evolving and supporting so many families throughout Scotland." (Trustee and Media Volunteer)
“The support, encouragement, and belief MISS have in their volunteers made me feel valued from day one. Volunteering here has played a crucial role in helping me secure a paid position in another health charity, and I truly believe that my experience with MISS made all the difference in getting that opportunity.” (Fundraising and Community Engagement Volunteer).
If you're interested in any of these opportunities and have skills to help us thrive — or are eager to learn and grow alongside our team — then we would be delighted to hear from you!
