About this opportunity
Do you like to talk? Do you like to talk about sport?
Sport Aberdeen has partnered with Sporting Memories Foundation Scotland to launch new social clubs in Aberdeen, and we are seeking friendly volunteers to facilitate and help support the sessions. Our Sporting Memories community clubs support adults who want to meet up with likeminded people to reconnect and reminisce about sport.
Our dementia-friendly clubs welcome local people, who may have chronic health conditions and/or are socially isolated, to meet up once a week to share their stories and enjoy inclusive activities with good company.
So, if you like to chat, can communicate well with others and have a good sense of humour, we want to hear from you!
We are looking for facilitators to ‘chair’ the group and supporters to help the sessions run smoothly. From leading a quiz to making tea, we welcome volunteers from all ages and backgrounds (sports fan or not!) because the most important quality is to encourage all club members to feel welcome, get involved and have fun!
No experience required and full training, materials and support provided throughout. Volunteers can also claim expenses if they need to travel to the club (mileage, bus or train fare).
This is a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference to the wellbeing of club members while having a good bit of banter.
You can choose to volunteer at the club at:
• Northfield Community Centre, Byron Square, Aberdeen AB16 7LL on Wednesdays 10.30am – 12.00pm
or
• Greyhope Community Hub, Tullos Circle, Aberdeen AB11 8HD on Tuesdays 11.00am- 12.30pm
To find out more, contact Volunteer Coordinator Liz Price by emailing liz.price@sportingmemories.uk or fill in a Volunteer Enquiry Form at www.sportingmemories.uk/volunteer-form and someone will get back to you.
