About this opportunity
Do you love talking about sport? Our clubs support older people who enjoy reminiscing about sport.
Sporting Memories has opportunities for people to help at our Northfield Club in Aberdeen which meets at Northfield Community Centre, Byron Square, Aberdeen, AB16 7LL on Wednesdays 10.30am-12.00pm.
We are seeking volunteers who can communicate well with others and are able to support club members who may have memory or physical health problems. The most important skill is to be able to listen to club members and help them to get involved in the discussion. No experience is required, just an ability to engage and communicate with people and to support those with who find it difficult to share their memories or have health problems. Also, a sense of humour and an ability to listen to others!
Full training and support is provided to all volunteers, which includes
- Induction to Sporting Memories. An initial phone call to have a chat about volunteering with us.
- An online training session regarding planning and running a club (3 hours).Dementia Awareness sessions.
- Fortnightly online sessions where you can meet other volunteers and be supported.Volunteers can claim expenses if they need to travel to the club (mileage, bus or train fares).
You will be part of a team of volunteers who will work together to improve the well-being of club members. One of our volunteers has said: "It is rewarding watching club members become more confident and start talking about their favourite sport."
A fantastic opportunity to help and make a real difference. Our volunteers love a bit of banter and sessions are about everyone having fun!
