About this opportunity

Earth & Worms is a community-garden based in Tillydrone, Aberdeen where a range of fruits, vegetables and other plants are grown by volunteers. The community-garden has made amazing progress since it’s foundation during the Covid lockdowns, transforming an area of overgrown derelict land into a productive garden with a polytunnel, raised-beds, wildlife pond, composting stations, pizza oven, fruit trees and wildflower meadow. Earth & Worms also partakes in broader community engagement in Aberdeen by taking part in events such as Envirolution and responding to city-wide consultations. Out work is primarily delivered by a core-group of volunteers during occasional ‘work days’ and we also regularly host social events around the fire, such as winter solstice parties and apple pressing days.

The garden is about to enter an exciting new chapter, with plans to entirely refurbish our historic byre as a useable indoor space and build a compost toilet to improve our ability to engage with and service the local community. For this next phase, our small committee have identified that we need additional strategic support from someone looking to take on a Treasurer role. In addition, we require input from people with an interest or experience in communications to take on the role of spreading the word of our activities.

We hold monthly informal meetings (it's not compulsory to attend every meeting) where strategy and garden projects are discussed. Meetings are normally held in the evenings in the garden, sitting around the fire. If weather is poor, we'll normally be inside a committee member's house
