About

At the Gordon Highlanders Museum we are committed to preserving and sharing the legacy of the world famous Gordon Highlanders for future generations.

Based in the heart of north east Scotland, in the beautiful former home of prominent Scottish artist, Sir George Reid, the museum is constantly evolving. We aim to provide a wide range of unique experiences for all our visitors. We are thrilled to be a recipient of the Queens Award for Voluntary Service-the equivalent of an MBE for volunteering in recognition of our support and commitment to volunteers and the difference volunteers make.

Officially opened in 1997 to ‘Preserve the legacy of The Gordon Highlanders‘ the Museum is a fantastic community asset, a 5-star visitor attraction and hospitality venue, providing volunteering opportunities for around 150+ people from all walks of life and backgrounds.

We are an invaluable resource for local schools, look after over 22,000 items in our collection and maintain a Category B listed building and gardens.

Housed in the former home and studio of prominent 19th century artist Sir George Reid PRSA, the Museum is the beautiful setting for our enthusiastic, passionate and knowledgeable volunteering team.

As you might expect from Volunteering at a Regimental museum, there will be plenty of opportunities to learn more about the story of The Gordon Highlanders if you wish, however your enthusiasm and time is all we really ask for.

So why not become part of this amazing team, meet new friends, boost your confidence, learn new skills and/or find other ways to utilize your existing skills and experience. Whatever you choose to do, every volunteer in their own way, helps preserve the legacy of The Gordon Highlanders Regiment.
