National Volunteers’ Week takes place between the 2nd-8th June with lots of activities and events to mark this important occasion and say a big thank you to the millions of tremendous volunteers throughout the country who do so much good for people and our communities. This includes of course all the incredible volunteers here in Aberdeen who contribute a collective, magnificent 6.4 million plus hours of help every year to our great city.
The following Volunteers’ Week thank you messages highlight how much volunteers mean to us all in Aberdeen:
“As Lord Provost of Aberdeen I would like to record my enormous thanks to all volunteers in the city. Currently in Aberdeen there are in excess of 1000 voluntary organisations logging more than 6.4 million hours of voluntary help annually. These statistics are based on known information and the reality is that the actual figures are even higher. Everyone involved is a hero making life so much better for thousands of our fellow citizens. Thank you, it is truly a privilege to be the civic leader of a city where such altruism exists.”
“The board of ACVO continues to be inspired by the outstanding contribution, dedication, and achievements of Aberdeen’s volunteers, who collectively make Aberdeen one of the UK’s hotspots of volunteering excellence! You inspire others by your selfless giving and commitment, and your volunteering enhances the quality of life for many across every community. As Aberdeen’s super-heroes without capes, you are the meaningful change in people’s lives, and we appreciate you all. Thank you all.”
“Volunteers have brought fantastic skills and enthusiasm which have made a difference to the lives of many in the city.” – Maggie Hepburn, Chief Executive, ACVO
“Volunteers’ Week is a fantastic opportunity to recognise the power of work that volunteers are doing here in Aberdeen and across the country. I would like to give a massive thanks to all the volunteers across Aberdeen for everything they do to improve our communities, change lives, and make our city a better place.”
“Aberdeen is extremely lucky to have so many fantastic volunteers who dedicate so much time and effort to make a difference to our community and, more importantly, other people’s lives. Volunteers’ Week is an important reminder of the crucial role volunteers play in our society, giving us an opportunity to show our respect and appreciation for all their acts of kindness. Thank you, each and every one of you.”
“I am delighted to once again support Volunteers’ Week, when we all take a pause to reflect on the invaluable contributions of volunteers in the Northeast and across the country. Every day, they selflessly give their time, skills, and resources to make our communities better. I would like to say a big thank you to all volunteers, whoever you are, whichever organisation or community you dedicate yourself to, no matter how big or small your contribution. You are the lifeline that keeps our communities thriving and your devotion and service is recognised and appreciated now much more than ever!”
“Volunteering is the golden thread of all that is good in our communities and the dedication, kindness and support that volunteers provide makes all our lives better.” – Mike Melvin, Volunteering Services Manager, ACVO
“On behalf of all of the team at ACVO, I would like to thank everyone who has been involved in volunteering in the city throughout the year. Without your support, our work would be so much harder and less fun. You have brought fantastic skills and enthusiasm which have made a difference to the lives of many in the city. Have a fantastic Volunteers’ Week 2025.”
“People across the country give their own free time to help charities, voluntary groups, organisations, events and neighbours and we want to show them all just how incredible we think they are. Last year 14.2 million people gifted their time in the name of helping others and we want to shout about how proud and grateful we are to every single volunteer.”
“Volunteers provide so much help, support and make a real, positive difference for people and communities. Volunteering is the golden thread of all that is good in our communities and the dedication, kindness and support that volunteers provide makes all our lives better and importantly brings great joy wherever volunteers go. Along with all the tremendous volunteer involving organisations in Aberdeen, ACVO is delighted to join in national Volunteers’ Week and say a big thank you to all volunteers in our fantastic city for all you do. Here’s to a great Volunteers’ Week 2025.”
