We are looking for volunteer mentors to support young people aged 12 to 20 years old across Aberdeen City. Volunteer mentors support young people experiencing a range of challenging circumstances, to build confidence, overcome obstacles, awaken ambition and much more.

We offer mentoring across Aberdeen City in community and education venues such as schools, community centres, libraries and youth centres. We will discuss with mentors where they would like to mentor and look for a venue that is accessible for you.

We match mentors and young people based on shared interests, life experiences, and personalities, so that you can relate to each other and build a supportive relationship. Once you begin mentoring your young person you will typically meet once a week for approximately an hour at a time that works for you both. We just ask for a commitment of at least one year so that you can be a consistent support to a young person.

Excellent training and support is provided to all Volunteer Mentors. After applying volunteers will be invited to have a one to one interview with one of our local mentor services coordinators, following this you will attend a 3 hour mentor training session (online or in-person) and complete a safeguarding module. Once matched with a young person mentors will receive a mentor induction from a Pathways Coordinator who will cover safeguarding, health & safety, and weekly feedback. After this the Pathways Coordinators will support the volunteer to get to know the young person and coordinate meetings. Additionally, we offer a range of optional training throughout the year on relevant topics.

We look for mentors from all walks of life, with different backgrounds and experiences. You may think you need to have a superpower or even a hero cape, but what we are really looking for is for you to see their potential, help them believe in themselves and pursue positive futures.
