About this opportunity

Do you love music? Can you play the piano, guitar, or accordion?

If so, you could make a real difference by joining Musical Memories—a warm, welcoming singing group for people living with dementia, along with their partners, families, and friends.

Run by a passionate team of volunteers, these sessions use the power of music to spark joy, boost brain activity, and encourage creativity and connection. Whether you're a seasoned performer or just enjoy playing for fun, your musical talents could help bring smiles and meaningful moments to others.

Previously held at the Alzheimer Scotland Dementia Resource Centre, this event now takes place every second Friday, 1.30pm-3.00pm at the Cowdray Hall (in/next to Aberdeen Art Gallery), Schoolhill, Aberdeen, AB10 1JQ, supporting larger audiences and growing community engagement.

What we need

We’re looking for an experienced musician to support our regular Musical Memories sessions for people living with dementia and their family and friends. Volunteers take turns each week to provide live musical accompaniment, helping participants sing along to a variety of well-loved songs from different eras.

What's in it for you

• Enjoyment in doing something you like while meeting new, like-minded people.
• Being a part our team and supporting our work.
• Voluntary work experience which can be an invaluable addition to your CV.
• We will provide training on Being Dementia Friendly and an induction to Aberdeen Archives Galleries and Museums volunteering programme is also provided.

A fantastic, enjoyable opportunity to help and make a real difference. All assistance is greatly appreciated.
