About this opportunity

Silver City Surfers is a small charity that provides free, friendly digital support to people across Aberdeen City. We help people build confidence using smartphones, tablets, laptops and online services, enabling them to stay connected with family and friends, access essential services, and feel less isolated in an increasingly digital world.

As a Volunteer Digital Tutor, you don't need to be an IT expert. Many of the questions we help with are everyday tasks such as:

  • Sending emails and messages
  • Using smartphones and tablets
  • Accessing online services
  • Staying safe online
  • Making video calls
  • Downloading apps
  • Understanding social media
  • Solving simple technology problems

Our volunteers provide one-to-one support in a relaxed, welcoming environment. The most important qualities are patience, good listening skills, and a willingness to help others learn at their own pace.

Volunteering with Silver City Surfers is a fantastic opportunity to:

  • Make a meaningful difference in someone's life
  • Help reduce loneliness and digital exclusion
  • Meet new people and become part of a friendly team
  • Share your skills and experience
  • Build confidence and develop communication skills
  • Gain valuable volunteering experience for your CV

All volunteers receive an induction covering Silver City Surfers, our values, policies and procedures, and the support we provide to learners. New volunteers will have the opportunity to shadow experienced tutors before supporting sessions themselves. Ongoing guidance, resources and support are provided by staff, and volunteers are encouraged to ask questions and share experiences with the wider team. Regular check-ins help ensure volunteers feel confident, supported and valued in their role.

Whether you're retired, working part-time, studying, or simply looking for a rewarding way to give back to your community, we'd love to hear from you.

We run free drop-in sessions across Aberdeen, with each session lasting 2 hours. Full support and guidance will be provided, and you'll be joining a welcoming organisation with over 20 years of experience helping people navigate the digital world.

By volunteering with Silver City Surfers, you'll help ensure that nobody is left behind in today's digital society.

Come and help someone take their next step online one click at a time.
