ASH - Autistic Social Hub - is a new charity in Aberdeen, but one that came about because of autistic voices.
A previous charity in Aberdeen (Autism Awareness Association) had largely ceased to operate, with groups being kept on in life support. This charity was one of the oldest Autistic Led organisations in Scotland, and we heard from those who had used its services that there was a need for a return to a formal organisation providing a place for low support needs autistic people.
Our groups and support and designed for autistic (including Aspergers) adults who are 18 and over with low support needs. While most of our members are in their twenties, there's no upper limit! This is sometimes referred to as "Level 1" autism in diagnosis. However, since 'Level 2' (some care required) autism is very broad, we also may be an appropriate service depending on an individual's needs, but we are not focused on this group.
We are looking for autistic trustees to join our board. We are an autism led charity for other autistic people with a focus on having a place to be and activities to supplement socialization. As a trustee you will have a say on the direction the charity is taking while performing roles involving governance.
